History

In the Spring of 2002, three Long Island University at C.W. Post students became members of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc via the Xi Chapter at St. Johns University. Hermanas Sasha Cunillera, Abigail Hijar, and Jennifer Almonte longed to see Lambda Pi Chi’s Letters recognized on the C.W Post campus. Their vision was to establish a chapter that would embody their professionalism, diversity, ideals and morals they upheld. However, it would be nearly a decade before their dreams would come to fruition.

Eight years later, on April 24, 2010, nine incredible women full of passion and determination founded what is now our Upsilon Chapter of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. at Long Island University CW Post campus. Their names are Dana Munoz, Lana Marie Rosado, Neidylin Morales, Kimberly Hughes, Vanessa Aden, Megan Williams, Melissa Herrera, Nhyasa East and Alexandra Hochstrasser. After searching and exploring Greek-lettered organizations on their campus for over a year, they each came together and found Lambda Pi Chi. Hermana Janine Morgan, of the Fall 2004 Intake Class of Alpha Chapter at Cornell University, was an invaluable resource who helped guide the undergraduate women in the right direction.

The nine women of this intake class faced several obstacles in their journey; however, their dedication to the sorority motivated them and kept them focused on their goals. They strongly believed in Lambda Pi Chi's Hermandad and its ability to transcend their collegiate experience as undergraduate women. It may have taken eight more years that intended, but thanks to the work of those three C.W Post women and the perseverance of these 9 new Hermanas, today Upsilon Chapter stands proudly promoting Lambda Pi Chi’s goals and values.
