History

The Professional/Graduate Pi Beta Chapter was established on July 10th, 1998 by Alumnae Hermanas in the Metropolitan-DC Area. These Hermanas wanted to continue the legacy they learned at their undergraduate institutions. Acknowledging the need for activism in our community and a sense of cohesiveness among them, they decided that establishing a Professional/Graduate Chapter was best. Serving as advisors, mentors and counselors to the Undergraduate chapters in the region, these Hermanas have helped strengthen the vitality of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. in the DC Area.

It is here, in the DC Metropolitan Area, where Hermanas of the Professional/Graduate Pi Beta Chapter of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc have served as active participants of the community. Through presentations, speeches, information distribution, mentoring and counseling, Pi Beta Hermanas have made DC Metro Area their own center of community service, constantly searching for new venues of promoting our Comunidad.

Our Ideals are the epitome of our organization. Through our activism and leadership, we promote La Cultura Latina, La Comunidad and La Hermandad.

In Fall 2007, the Pi Beta Chapter of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. welcomed six women with the chapter's first intake class: Michelle Melencio, Vanessa Rodriguez, Lorenley Baéz, Nefertiti Bridges, Luisa Reyes and Dalila Rivera.
