PHILADELPHIA, PA – June 4, 2012 – Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. ("Lambda Pi Chi”), a NALFO member organization, publicly announced today that the location of its 2012 National Convention will be in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. From August 3rd through 5th, members of Lambda Pi Chi will gather at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel at Philadelphia Center City for workshops, community service activities and an awards ceremony to recognize outstanding Hermanas for their contributions to the Sorority and their communities.

Since its founding in 1988, Lambda Pi Chi has worked to empower women by providing a supportive network dedicated to their personal and professional advancement. This year, Lambda Pi Chi will continue that legacy with its annual College Book Scholarship Program, among other initiatives. The scholarship program, which is part of Lambda Pi Chi’s Proyecto H.A.C.E.R. (Hermanas Advancing Career and Educational Resources), provides financial assistance to outstanding college-bound young women.

Through Lambda Pi Chi’s College Book Scholarship Program, minority female high-school seniors are given an opportunity to apply for scholarships that will assist them in their pursuit of higher education. Lambda Pi Chi accepts applications from young women who reside in cities where the Sorority hosts its annual National Convention. While in Philadelphia, Lambda Pi Chi’s National Scholarship Committee will award two scholarships to young women who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential and a commitment to community service. The scholarships may be used to offset the cost of textbooks, school supplies or other expenses.

"I am excited to continue the historical growth and evolution with our organization’s annual convention in a city that has born witness to our own nation’s historical evolution, it is an appropriate setting. I’m looking forward to sharing our values and commitment to community in such an emblematic location such as Philadelphia,” said Maria Diaz, Lambda Pi Chi’s current president.
