Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. (Lambda Pi Chi), a NALFO member organization, announced today its establishment of the "LPC College Book Scholarship.”  Since its founding in 1988, Lambda Pi Chi has worked to empower women by providing a supportive network dedicated to their personal and professional advancement.  This year, Lambda Pi Chi is continuing that legacy by establishing an annual scholarship to provide financial assistance to college-bound women.  The "LPC College Book Scholarship” will be a part of Lambda Pi Chi’s Proyecto H.A.C.E.R. (Hermanas Advancing Career and Educational Resources).

Through the Scholarship, graduating high school seniors who reside in cities where Lambda Pi Chi hosts its annual National Convention will have an opportunity to apply for scholarships that will assist them in their pursuit of higher education.   The "LPC College Book Scholarship” is open to women of color  who are historically underrepresented in higher education, and who have received and accepted an offer of admission to a college or university. This year’s scholarship recipients will be chosen from students attending high schools in the greater Boston area.

In August, Lambda Pi Chi’s Scholarship Committee will award two scholarships to young women who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership skills and a commitment to community service. The scholarships may be used to offset the cost of textbooks, school supplies or other expenses.  "We are excited to launch this new College Book Scholarship under Proyecto H.A.C.E.R. Being a first-time college student can be an exciting yet daunting experience. Any relief we can provide to the scholarship recipients should alleviate some of this burden and help ease their transition into college life,” says Maria Diaz, National President of Lambda Pi Chi.
