Lambda Pi Chi Sorority Launches 2016 Book Scholarship Fundraiser

New York – March 14, 2016 Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Incorporated launches Chance for Change the Sorority’s 2016 College Book Scholarship fundraiser. The fundraiser supports the organization’s Proyecto H.A.C.E.R (Hermanas Advancing Career and Educational Resources) initiative and will benefit young women graduating high school and committed to a higher education institution.

We are very committed to providing opportunities towards the advancement of all people of color with a special emphasis on the Latina and one way our Sorority can ensure these opportunities exist, is by creating them ourselves,” said Cristina Bañuelos, national president of Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Incorporated. Our Sorority is very fortunate to have a robust network of professional women who are committed to investing in our next generation of leaders.”

Chance for Change is a national philanthropic endeavor for Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Incorporated. Nationwide undergraduate and graduate chapters of the Sorority collect spare change and donations through campus drives and community fundraiser events. Additionally, Hermanas (the sorority’s members) contribute by making individual donations. This year’s fundraiser runs from March 14, 2016 through April 14, 2016.

Our Proyecto H.A.C.E.R. initiative concentrates on assisting women from underrepresented communities by providing them access to resources that are usually not readily accessible to them,” said Chris Diaz, national vice president. “Chance for Change is just one way our Hermandad (the Sorority) is able to give back to our communities and support young women of color in furthering their educational and career goals.”

Last year, the Sorority collected $1500, and was able to award Adelante Latina funds to support their college preparatory program for high school women from the Baltimore, Maryland area. This year the Sorority anticipates exceeding last year’s revenue and increase the fund for future recipients. This year, awards will be given to three deserving high school seniors in the amounts of $500, $250 and $100 to assist them in offsetting the costs of textbooks, school supplies, and other expenses for their first year in college.

By reading the applications of these young women, I am rejuvenated in the work and commitment of Lambda Pi Chi,” said Daniela Trammell, former book scholarship committee member. When we as Hermanas [members] pledge a life-long commitment to each other and empowering our communities, we are fulfilling this vision by giving back to young women and eliminating some barriers to success through education.”

Recipients of the Proyecto H.A.C.E.R College Book Scholarship, must apply through a competitive application process by demonstrating their academic excellence, exemplary leadership skills, and commitment to community service, all in alignment with the Sorority's vision, mission and goals. Eligible applicants must reside near the city of the Sorority’s National Convention. Location to be announced soon.
