Let's take you back to 1988. Imagine the strength our Founders embodied as they united against numerous barriers to create a space where future generations of women could come together in solidarity. Fast forward 28 years later...
Nuestra Fuerza: Hermanas in Solidarity, which translates to "Our Strength: Hermanas in Solidarity," recognizes that as individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives we can still work collectively to strengthen our Hermandad and continue leaving footprints for future Hermanas. This year's theme highlights the importance of building bridges, engaging in discussions surrounding our communities' needs, and tapping into the strength we have as individuals and as an Hermandad.
Our 2016 National Convention will celebrate the strength of Nuestra Hermandad while building solidarity with one another.
This year's convention will take place in Tampa, FL, which consists of various diverse and unique Carribean and Latinx communities. Most notably, Tampa is home to Ybor City, also known as "Little Havana" to the thousands of Cubans, who had left their homeland after the Spanish-American War. Not only can you find traces of Cuban history throughout Tampa, such as the José Martí Park dedicated to the famous revolutionary, but you can check out the 12,000 square foot Ybor City mural project that illustrates the area's past and present. Finally, take advantage of the hotel's location on the waterfront, which is walking distance from restaurants, museums, and other attractions in downtown Tampa!
See you in the Big Guava!
