History

In the Fall of 1998, several women at George Mason University began to research Latina Greek-Letter organizations. They sought to be part of an organization that would impact and ultimately bring forth unity within the Latino Community. Through their research, these women realized they wanted an organization comprised of individuals that exhibited strength, determination, commitment, and the motivation to meet the needs of Latinos in America and that welcomed all women.

After extensive interaction with the women of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc., it became clear that these were women that possessed the leadership qualities that would meet the goals of the George Mason University student body and make a difference in the Latino community. It was evident that these women were seeking change and coordinating events and programs that enhance the Latino community.

Through hard work and perseverance, four strong women established the Mu Chapter of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/ Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. at the George Mason University on November 6, 1999. The Mu Chapter founders sought to establish an organization for women that would support their educational, organizational, personal and professional goals. These women have committed themselves to live out the goals and purposes of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/ Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. and to promote and bring forth unity at the George Mason University.
