On December 4, 1999, four strong women established Nu Chapter of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. Together, they completed a journey began a year and a half earlier, when a group of women from Harvard and Northeastern Universities came together to address a fundamental need they saw within their universities. These women sought out an organization that would promote unity among women, pride within the Latino culture and involvement within the community. Las Hermanas of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. embodied all of these ideals within the context of a unique sisterhood. The interested women felt an emotional and intellectual connection with Las Hermanas, and they were impressed and inspired by Las Hermanas' professionalism, activism, uniqueness and loyalty.
In the fall of 1999, with the guidance of many Hermanas, especially Rosie Batista and Andrea Rosario, five women became members of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc.
With the support of family, friends and Las Hermanas, Nu Chapter strives to enrich and support the Boston and Cambridge area by confronting and addressing the vital concerns of their community.
